3 Burglaries Reported, Repeat Offenses Continue By Lookout Staff February 21, 2025 -- Three burglaries were reported in Santa Monica over seven days this month, while police arrested seven repeat offenders who had warrants or were in violation of parole. The arrests -- which also included an arrest for arson -- were among the 55 arrests made from February 8 and 14, bringing the total number this year to 325. They were among the 2,165 calls for service during the seven-day stretch, 21 percent of them involving homeless individuals, according to the Police Department's "The Blue Notebook" weekly blog. No suspects were located in the three residential burglaries, which took place in the north side of he city, according to the blog. The first burglary listed took place in a 3-story condo on the 1100 block of 20th Street where the owner arrived home and found the lights on and the patio door open. The homeowner "believed the suspect was still inside, wrote Lt. Lewis Gilmour, the Police Department spokesperson. "Forced entry was located to the patio/kitchen door and the front door was barricaded shut." A search team with a K-9 combed the property and found "ransacking and loss of valuables" but no suspects were located. Officers, along with a K-9, search the interior of the 2-story home and found evidence of a forced entry at the 2nd floor balcony door to the main bedroom and to the closet door "where valuables had been taken." A third burglary took place on the 900 block of 29th Street, where a family moving into a multi-unit building discovered forced entry to the patio doors, footprints inside and a second floor light on," Gilmour said. There was evidence of ransacking in the bedroom, but no suspects were located. During the same seven-day period, officers made three arrests for parole or violations, one involving a suspect on parole for for human trafficking of a minor. The suspect, who is a Sex Registrant, "was in violation of conditions of release due to drinking alcohol in public and his close proximity to a park with children." Officers also made four warrant arrest. One of the suspects arrested had an outstanding warrant for lewd acts in public, another had an outstanding warrant for carjacking from Riverside. During the same seven-day period, officers arrested a homeless man with a history of multiple arrests for intentionally setting four fires at different locations ("Homeless Man Arrested for Setting 4 Fires," February 13, 2025). |
