May 10, 2021 -- Santa Monica police made separate arrests this weekend for an attempted murder in the Pico Neighborhood and for possession of a handgun by a DUI driver North of Montana.

At around 3 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of prowlers in the 900 block of Georgina Avenues on the City's exclusive northside, police said.

When they arrived, the suspects left the area at "a high rate of speed" in a vehicle matching the description provided by the reporting party, said SMPD spokesman Lt. Rudy Flores.

"The vehicle failed to obey several traffic signs and continued to be reckless until officers stopped it a short distance away," Flores said.

"When officers made contact, the driver showed obvious signs of intoxication and inside the vehicle were open alcoholic beverages which led officers to conduct standardized field sobriety tests," he said.

Officers subsequently recovered a loaded firearm on the passenger, Flores said.

The driver, identified as Marcos H. Chino, a 19-year-old Hispanic male from Los Angeles, was arrested and booked for driving under the Influence of drugs and alcohol.

The passenger, Marcos J. Saquich, a 20-year-old Hispanic male from Los Angeles, was arrested and booked for carrying a loaded firearm that was not registered.

On Sunday night, Santa Monica police -- with the aid of a helicopter and K-9 unit -- arrested a man who attempted to murder his girlfriend with a large knife in the Pico Neighborhood.

Jeremy Gonzalez, 29, was arrested by police who initially responded to the knife attack on the 1900 block of Cloverfield Boulevard at around 8:45 p.m., police said

The victim -- who was not injured -- told police that Gonzalez had fled the area on foot before police arrived, Flores said.

Officers located Gonzalez in a vehicle in the 2200 Block of Virginia Avenue. Flores said. When officers made contact he fled on foot.

Police set up a perimeter and conducted a K-9 search with the help of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Air Unit, Flores said.

They located Gonzalez, who was "taken into custody a short time after," he said.

Gonzalez was treated at a local hospital for a laceration sustained to his hand "while jumping over a fence," Flores said.

He was booked for attempted murder, domestic violence and criminal threats, police said.

Anyone with additional information related to the incidents should call the Criminal Investigations Division of the SMPD at (310) 458-8451 or the Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-8427.
