CityTV Announces Vote 2006 Election Programming Line-up CityTV, the government access cable channel for the City of Santa Monica, has announced its “Vote 2006” line-up of Santa Monica election programming for this year’s election. The line-up represents CityTV’s most ambitious election programming efforts ever in its 16 years of providing quality election coverage to Santa Monicans. In all, the channel will produce 20 election shows covering the City Council race, College Board, School Board, Rent Control Board, Assembly, Congress and five Ballot Measures. The League of Women Voters of Santa Monica Education Fund and the Center for Governmental Studies are partners in the production of Vote 2006 programming. Beyond airing programs on CityTV cable channel 16, cable channel 99 has been converted to a 24 hours per day Santa Monica election programming channel until election day. “We wanted people to be able to watch our election programming at their convenience, at any time of the day or night!”, said CityTV Manager Robin Gee. Time Warner is also making CityTV election programming available at no cost to local cable TV subscribers on their Video On Demand service. In addition, Santa Monica voters can go to smvote.org to see videos on demand and learn more about the candidates and ballot measures on the November 7th ballot. More programs and videos are added to the channels throughout the month of October with the coverage culminating with live election results on election night, November 7th. For a complete listing of Vote 2006 election shows, voters can call CityTV (310-458-8590) for a program guide or log onto the station’s centralized website www.smvote.org for a complete election program guide, streaming video candidate statements, useful election links and an election community calendar. And if Santa Monicans don’t have access to the cable channel or the website, voters can check out the CityTV Election 2006 programs on DVD at their local libraries. “We’re very proud that CityTV is offering Santa Monica voters more local election programming than the mainstream broadcast networks and all news cable outlets combined. There are crucial decisions to be made about the future of Santa Monica and CityTV will help voters make clear and informed choices on November 7th,” says Tracy Westen, CEO of The Center for Governmental Studies. Vote 2006 programming is a joint production of CityTV in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Santa Monica Education Fund and the Center for Governmental Studies. CityTV, Santa Monica’s government access television channel 16, reaches over 24,000 local cable television households. In addition to election programming, CityTV airs a variety of local news, sports, performing arts and public meeting coverage. |
