Santa Monica Historical Society Museum Celebrates Black History Month

The Santa Monica Historical Society Museum will host a Black History Month Celebration with a lecture and book signing by Venice resident Sonya Reese Davis.

Her new book, “The Wizard of Venice,” celebrates her grandfather’s life, Author L. Reese, an inventor, decorator and businessman of Venice, California during the 1900s.

The Wizard decorated the town of Venice, designed gondolas for the Venice Canals, and also operated businesses in both Venice and Santa Monica.

Sonya Reese Davis’ lecture will uncover how her grandfather’s passion to succeed in life led him to a friendly business relationship with Abbott Kinney, the founder of Venice, and how he brought together the communities of Venice and Santa Monica ! through social clubs and events.

Limited Seating, Reservations Required. Free Admission. Call the museum for reservations or more information, (310)395-2290. The lecture and book signing will be held on February 12th at 2:30pm at the Santa Monica Historical Society Museum located at 1539 Euclid Street.
