June 29, 2026 -- As Santa Monica ramps up its traffic enforcement efforts, two officers were recognized this month by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for their DUI arrests.

Officer Jacqueline Frausto Ramirez was recognized for making 21 DUI arrests and Officer Jonas Pandya was recognized for 25 DUI arrests.

"Their proactive enforcement and commitment to removing impaired drivers from our roadways help prevent tragedies before they happen," Police Department officials said.

The annual MADD awards acknowledge the efforts of law enforcement personnel for their annual impaired driving arrests, as well as first responders, prosecutors, probation officers and MADD volunteers "for their life-saving endeavors," according to the non-profit.

In addition to pro-active efforts, the Santa Monica Police Department routinely cracks down on impaired drivers during DUI checkpoints at undisclosed locations.

The locations are "determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes," police officials said.

"Every impaired driving arrest represents a potential life saved," officials said.

"We are proud of (our officers') dedication to keeping Santa Monica safe and grateful to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) California for recognizing the important work of law enforcement in protecting our community."
