August 10, 2026 – An elderly couple died early Sunday morning after fire consumed their two-story Tudor-style home on Santa Monica's north side.

The fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Lincoln Boulevard, between Marguerita and Alta Avenues, according to Fire Department officials.

Neighbors reportedly called 911 "after they noticed an orange glow coming from the home," according to ABC7. "Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames engulfing all sides of the home, and a car parked in the driveway indicated that residents were possibly inside."

The Fire Department issued a statement Sunday saying the crews found the home "fully involved with heavy fire on multiple sides.”

“Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and conducted a primary search of the residence,” the statement said. “Two occupants were located inside the home and removed.

"Advanced life support measures were immediately initiated; however, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no firefighter injuries.”

The couple, who were in their 90s, normally had a caretaker with them, but no one was on duty at the time of the fire, SMFD Platoon Battalion Chief James Altman told the LA Times. He said the two bodies were found in first-floor bedroom.

The Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, officials said. The identities of the two victims have not been released, but family members were notified.

The fatal fire comes two months after an elderly tenant died after fire broke out in an apartment building at 2628 5th Street in Ocean Park on June 5. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died of injuries sustained in the fire.
