City Announces Winners of Sustainability Awards

By Lookout Staff

April 2, 2026 -- Four Santa Monica businesses have been named winners of the 30th annual Sustainable Quality Awards for helping the beach city "realize a more sustainable future," City officials announced Wednesday.

The recipients -- who will be recognized at a ceremony April 29 at the Annenberg Community Beach House -- "encompass hospitality, education, housing and transportation sectors in Santa Monica," officials said.

This year's grand prize winners are Community Corporation of Santa Monica, the Regent Santa Monica Beach Hotel and the Santa Monica Family YMCA. The Bike Center Santa Monica LLC will receive the award for Excellence in Stewardship of the Environment.

“Sustainable businesses strengthen local communities by creating jobs, protecting the environment, and reinvesting in the people and places that allow them to thrive,” said Shannon Parry, the City's Chief Sustainability Officer.

“This year’s Sustainable Quality award-winning businesses are an integral part of our community and our economic recovery and we are immensely grateful for their effort,” Perry said.

Community Corporation, a nonprofit organization that has developed and manages affordable housing since 1982, has created more than 2,000 units in 95 buildings.

"Beyond housing, the organization offers free resident services integrating sustainability through green building, partnerships and programs," event organizers said.

Regent Santa Monica Beach, an oceanfront luxury resort that was formerly the Loews Hotel, reopened in 2023 after a $150 million renovation. Operated by IHG, the hotel "offers elevated amenities and dining while integrating sustainability throughout their facility operations."

The Santa Monica Family YMCA "focuses on youth development, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility." The nonprofit offers "memberships, programming and activities that improve overall well-being, and encourage service and connection within the Santa Monica community."

The Bike Center Santa Monica LLC, winner of the Excellence award, "promotes biking for commuting, errands, exercise and recreation." The business is "a welcoming hub for cyclists of all levels, offering rentals, repairs, sales and guided tours."

Grand Prizes are awarded to businesses that excel in the three categories of sustainable economic development, social responsibility and stewardship of the environment. Excellence Awards are given to outstanding achievements in any one or two of the three categories.

A partnership between the City of Santa Monica and Sustainable Works, the awards are "the oldest and most rigorous" sustainable business awards in Southern California. Since 1995, a total of 180 Santa Monica area businesses have been recognized with 243 awards.

Winners are evaluated and scored by an independent panel of nine qualified professionals with expertise in economics, business management, strategic planning, organizational development, human resources, environmental policy and green building.

They are representatives from the City, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce and the community at large.
