Global Motion Presents Fall Performance

By Lookout Staff

October 28, 2025 -- The Santa Monica College (SMC) Global Motion World Dance Company will present its fall 2025 performance of dances from around the world next month.

The performance -- which features dance styles including West African, Flamenco, Ballet, Asian, Hawaiian, Mexican Folklórico and Salsa -- takes place on Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9, at 7:30 p.m. in The Eli & Edythe Broad Stage at the SMC Performing Arts Center.

The performance includes a work by French dancer and choreographer Jade Lelievre, whose dances are "dedicated to creating spaces where movement becomes a path to transformation and self-discovery," event organizers said.

Lelievre is a graduate of Santa Monica College (SMC) where she earned an associate degree in dance after moving to Los Angeles from Paris,
where she grew up and trained at the Conservatory of Boulogne-Billancourt.

At SMC, she was introduced to contemporary and world dances, performing with both SMC companies -- Synapse Contemporary Dance Theater and Global Motion World Dance Company -- as well as Kybele Dance Theater.

Global Motion was founded more than four decades ago by Judith Douglas, former chair of the SMC Dance Department, "to bring knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the diverse beauty of dance throughout the world," school officials said.

The dance company also gives SMC students "the essential experience of working with choreographers and performing as a professional company, on a professional stage."

Global Motion is under the artistic direction of SMC dance professors Raquel Ramirez, founder and director of a Mexican folklórico performance group, and Sri Susilowati, a dancer, choreographer and storyteller originally from Indonesia.

The ensemble has toured extensively and performed at schools, festivals and special events throughout California and Mexico.

They also have performed in Beijing, China three times; Bracciano, Italy; Santiago, Chile; Lloret de Mar, Spain, and Paris, France.

Tickets can be purchased online at smc.edu/tickets or by calling 310-434-3005 Monday through Friday during limited hours. They also can be purchased on the day of the performance at The Broad Stage Box Office at the SMC Performing Arts Center.

The Performing Arts Center is located at the corner of 13th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard and has free parking on the premises. Seating is strictly on a first-arrival basis.
