October 25, 2025 -- Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed two pedestrians and injured two others on Wilshire Boulevard Friday night then fled the scene on foot.
The suspect was traveling in the wrong direction, going westbound in the eastbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard when he drove onto the sidewalk and struck the four pedestrians, according to preliminary information.
Officers responding to reports of "a severe traffic collision" at the 1300 block of Wilshire at around 9:15 p.m. found the four victims on the south sidewalk, police officials said.
The Santa Monica Fire Department responded and transported two individuals with injuries to a local hospital where they are expected to survive. The other two victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The involved vehicle was left behind by the driver, who "fled on foot prior to officers’ arrival and remains outstanding," said Lt. Lewis Gilmour, the Police Department spokesman.
The suspect is described as "a Black male, approximately 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a red hat, a black sweater, and black shoes," Gilmour said.
Wilshire Boulevard between 14th Street and Euclid Avenue was closed for several hours as investigators from SMPD's Major Accident Response Team (MART) processed the crime scene.
“We recognize the gravity of this tragedy and the impact it has on our community,” said Interim Chief Darrick Jacob.
“Our investigators are working tirelessly to identify and locate the suspect responsible, and our hearts are with the families of the victims who are experiencing unimaginable loss.”
Police officials are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the suspect fleeing the scene, or has any information about the incident to contact Investigator Lantz Lewis at 310-458-2201 x5311 or Lantz.Lewis@santamonica.gov), Sgt.
