October 10, 2025 -- A Santa Monica Library card can now be used to check out more than library items -- cardholders can use it to get discounts at local businesses or check out Monday's tech fair for free.
A program launched as part of September’s Library Card Sign-up Month allows the city's 53,000 Public Library cardholders to use their cards for discounts at nearly two-dozen local businesses through August 31, 2026.
The "diverse array" of offerings include entertainment, fitness classes, dog training, coffee, wine and dining.
“We’re thrilled this program continues to grow and strengthen the relationship between our library, our patrons and the vibrant local business community,” said Santa Monica Public Library Director Erica Cuyugan.
“It’s a meaningful way to connect residents with our wide range of library resources while also encouraging them to invest in the businesses that help our city thrive.”
Apply for a Santa Monica Public Library card online or apply in-person by visiting the Main Library, Pico Branch or Montana Branch during open hours.
A list of participating businesses and discount details can be found here.
Library cardholders can also use their card for free admission to the second annual Tech St. Santa Monica street fair on Ocean Avenue and in Palisades Park Monday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Attendees to the fair, which kicks off LA Tech Week 2025, "can experience exhibits, robotics demonstrations, performances, a beer garden, community partners and more," event organizers said.
Tech St. Santa Monica "will unite startups, venture capital firms, corporations, creators and residents to showcase the region’s thriving innovation ecosystem," organizers said.
