Homer Simpson Clones Invade Santa Monica

By Jorge Casuso

November 20, 2025 -- A busload of Homer Simpsons -- too many to count -- swarmed the Promenade Tuesday, where they strolled, danced and ransacked a nearby donut shop captured on videos have have gone viral.

The invasion of the Homer clones came without warning as part of a promotional stunt for the Fortnite season, a collaboration between the video game Fortnite and the popular cartoon series The Simpsons.

Homer Simpson Clones Invade the Promenade

Photojournalist Fabian Lewkowicz captured the "pop-up flash mob" in a 40-minute video posted on his Santa Monica Closeup YouTube channel.

According to Lewkowicz some 50 life-size Homer Simpson characters "greeted shoppers, posed for selfies, and performed a synchronized group dance."

Simpsons creator Matt Groening showed up and "photographed the Homer performers, met with fans along the Promenade, and posed for photos with visitors who recognized him."

Captured on numerous videos shared on social media, the stunt coincides with the release of the latest Fortnite trailer for "Multiplidiocy,” which shows Homer clones overrunning the streets of Springfield island.

The short episode, according to GameSpot, "depicts Bart and Lisa Simpson observing radioactive zombified versions of their dad meandering through the streets before Police Chief Clancy Wiggum mows several of them down with a couple of fancy Fortnite guns.

"The short ends with Lisa and Bart attempting to restore their father, only for a giant, nearly naked Homer to materialize before going on a destructive rampage."

The episode includes a giant floating donut obliterated in the sky, which explains why an undisclosed donut shop near the Promenade was mobbed by marauding Homers, reportedly with the owner's permission.

"While most of them were lined up (to) grab their quota of the sugary delights, a few were even pictured seemingly serving their alternate versions behind the counters," according to a report in the Financial Express.

"A different hard-to-miss visual included a seemingly passed-out Homer Simpson having crashed out on the side. He was seen trying his all to catch his composure and stand up while surrounded by cash and a fallen box of donuts," the Indian English-language business newspaper reported.

The blast of international publicity is timely for the struggling walk street the City hopes to revive with an ambitious plan that focuses on Downtown.

"The Promenade's selection for the Homer Simpson installation underscores its role as a cultural canvas -- where pop culture, public space and community identity collide in the most unexpected (and donut-loving) ways," said Mayor Lana Negrete.
