By Lookout Staff January 17, 2025 -- Santa Monica residents can offer help to fire victims and first responders during upcoming donation drives and a number of ongoing efforts. The first drive takes place Sunday, when the City hosts a Main Street Farmers Market Produce Donation Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m to feed firefighters and communities affected by the wildfires burning across the LA area. Produce donations of any size can be dropped off at the Market Info Booth at 2460 Main Street. After collecting thousands of donations on Monday and Tuesday, the Santa Monica College Foundation will host a distribution event next week for those affected by the Pacific Palisades fire. The four-day event will take place Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Corsair Gym on SMC's Main Campus at 1900 Pico Boulevard. An event has been added on Sunday. The donations will help "students, employees and community members including the children, staff and families in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District," college officials said. This week's two day drive resulted in thousands of donations that included "food, new and gently used clothing, hygiene products, baby supplies and blankets." As part of an ongoing effort, members of the Santa Monica Travel & Tourism team have delivered nearly 3,000 meals donated by some 40 local restaurants to first responders in Santa Monica. Restaurants and hotels are also offering discounted specials to support first responders and those impacted by the wildfires.
