April 25, 2025 -- The City is seeking volunteers to help keep Big Blue Bus (BBB) stops clean and safe under a new Adopt-A-Stop volunteer program.
The program will launch with volunteers looking after 20 of the roughly 930 stops in the BBB service area, City officials said.
"Keeping track of the conditions at all of (the stops) can be challenging," officials said in a post on the City's website seeking volunteers.
"Adopters provide an extra set of eyes on BBB stops and allows BBB the chance to interact with the community more intimately," officials said.
It also allows the transit agency to "respond to issues regarding the cleanliness of our stops more urgently," officials said.
Volunteers will "perform light cleaning, monitor the condition of their adopted stops, and report any maintenance or safety issues directly to BBB."
"This proactive approach allows for quicker responses to concerns, enhancing the overall experience for everyone who relies on public transportation," officials said.
Adopt-A-Stop volunteers will receive free bus rides and exclusive merchandise "to show off their BBB pride," officials said.
"Providing an avenue for folks who are ready to engage in their community and see the results of their efforts is a priority of the Adopt-A-Stop program," officials said.
