November 1, 2024 -- Those who long for a winter wonderland in Southern California will have their wish granted when "Ice at Santa Monica" returns Downtown this month.

The holiday tradition -- operated by Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. (DTSM) in partnership with Los Angeles-based Willy Bietak Productions -- will kick off Friday, November 8 with the Grand Opening Celebration from 5 to 11 p.m.

The Future is Female

Skaters can glide around the rink for free during the 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. sessions, Downtown officials said.

The opening features live DJ sets and "captivating" on-ice performances by Olympic hopeful skaters Katie McBeath and Daniil Parkman, "who have recently achieved notable successes in their competitive careers."

Vote. Say no to Chaos

The rink, which will remain open through January 20 at the corner of Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue, features rink-side fire pits, themed events and a family-friendly New Year’s Eve countdown, officials said.

The rink also offers tent rentals for private parties.

In addition to the ice rink, DTSM will host the Official City of Santa Monica Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, November 21, from 6 to 8 p.m.

City officials will help Santa Claus light the official holiday tree on the Third Street Promenade, accompanied by a night of live entertainment, holiday arts and crafts and free photos with Santa.

A snowfall is in the forecast "to create a magical experience for all ages," Downtown officials said.

Every Thursday in December leading up to Christmas Day, the Promenade will stage free family-friendly events that feature live holiday entertainment, holiday arts and crafts activities, the chance to write and hand-deliver letters to Santa and free holiday treats.

"Guests can also enjoy magical snowfall right on the Promenade and shop for unique gifts at the holiday markets," officials said. "Pets are welcome to join in the festivities, making it a fun evening for the entire family."

Admission to Ice at Santa Monica is $22 for a 60-minute session, including skate rental. The rink will be open daily Sundays through Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
