At around 8 p.m., police responded to the reported stabbing on the 1500 block of 4th Street near Parking Structure 7 in the Santa Monica Place mall, officials said.

Officers determined the suspect, Larry Ameyal Cedeno, assaulted three individuals "in an unprovoked incident," said Meysha Morrison, a Police Department spokesperson.

Two victims suffered stab wounds, with one of them hospitalized in critical but stable condition, Morrison said. The third victim "was assaulted with no major injuries."

Responding officers immediately began CPR on the first victim while additional officers located the suspect, who "was detained and arrested a short time later," Morrison said.

Cedeno, who is on probation for larceny, remains in custody at the Santa Monica Jail pending arraignment and the official filing of charges, according to police officials.

"The safety and security of our community is our top priority," officials said in a statement Monday afternoon. "As we actively investigate this incident, we will continue to provide updates as they become available."
