Officers responded to a call at around 9:50 p.m. reporting a battery that had just taken place in the 1200 block of Lincoln Boulevard near Reed Park, police officials said

They found the victim, a Santa Monica resident, "suffering from a blow to the head and other injuries," said Lt. Erika Aklufi, the Police Department spokesperson.

"The suspects, four males in a Kia sedan and armed with a handgun, robbed the woman of her purse," Aklufi said.

A witness provided police with the license plate and a description of the vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Long Beach, Aklufi said.

Additional officers responding to the incident located the stolen Kia in the south side of the City being driven "recklessly" and initiated a traffic stop, she said.

The driver failed to yield and police gave pursuit, Aklufi said. The chase ended when the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a pickup at 11th Street and Wilshire Boulevard.

Police immediately located two of the suspects and took them into custody, Aklufi said. A third suspect was found hiding in a carport off a nearby alley and taken into custody without incident.

The fourth suspect pushed his way into an occupied apartment in the 1200 block of 11th Street and was pushed out by the resident, Aklufi said.

An LAPD helicopter assisting in the incident located the suspect hiding on the roof of the building, police said. He was taken into custody, and a firearm was found in the area.

The elderly victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, Aklufi said. The occupants of the pickup struck by the fleeing vehicle were not seriously injured.

The four suspects were booked into the Santa Monica Jail on charges of felony battery, robbery and elder abuse.

They are Kejon Stevenson, 24, of Los Angeles; Jacob Pugh, a 19-year-old homeless man, and two juveniles from Los Angeles who are both 17.

Anyone with information about the incident should email Detective Tavera at Hector.Tavera@santamonica.gov or Detective Sergeant Gradle at Ryan.Gradle@santamonica.gov, or call the Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-8427.
