By Lookout Staff February 13, 2023 -- One of LA's most romantic places will light up with symbols of love for Valentine's Day in Santa Monica. Pacific Park’s Ferris wheel on the Pier -- voted by two major publications as a top spot for sweethearts -- will celebrate the holiday with flashing hearts and love emojis in red pink and white. “Not just love will be in the air on Valentine’s Day but guests riding our Ferris wheel will also be 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean while enjoying one of the most romantic views in Los Angeles,” says Nathan Smithson, the amusement park's director of Marketing and Business Development. “Guests will also be treated to the calming and enchanting sounds of waves breaking on the beach at one of Southern California’s most famous locations.” The wheel spinning at the edge of the Pacific was ranked among USA Today’s “The Romantic Places for Couples in Los Angeles” and among the “Great Places to Make a Romantic Proposal” by Westways magazine. The wheel's 174,000 solar-powered LED lights will celebrate the holiday with its special romantic display on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Those who can't make it to the Pier on Tuesday -- enjoy the Ferris wheel lights program online at www.pacpark.com/live. The lighting system "features 16.7 million color value combinations while the programming and display software presents imaging up to 24 frames per second," park officials said. Its enhanced LED lighting -- which provides 81 percent greater energy savings than the traditional incandescent bulbs used by most Ferris wheels -- displays "dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment."
