By Lookout Staff September 20, 2022 -- A suicide attempt near the pier Tuesday and a juvenile fight near Samohi on Monday led to two separate hospitalizations, according to police. There was a large police and fire presence near the Pier Tuesday morning after a distraught man threatened to jump off the bridge above Pacific Coast Highway, police said. The man was removed safely and transported to a local hospital, according to police. Traffic in the area was affected by the large deployment, which included the Los Angeles County Fire Department, police said. "If you or someone you know is thinking about harming themselves call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK or text 988," police said in a Tweet. On Monday afternoon police officers responded to a report of a fight near the Santa Monica High School campus but did not indicate whether those involved were students. The fight reportedly took place at around 3:40 in the 1800 block of alley 7 "involving a small group of male juveniles," said Lt. Rudy Flores, the Police Department spokesman. "Santa Monica Fire Department arrived to provide medical treatment to one of the minors," Flores said. "He was subsequently transported to a local hospital with cuts and abrasions to his face area. "The minor was subsequently discharged and is recovering at home," Flores said. "The other individuals involved left before police arrived." No arrests have been made, he said. The incident comes one month after a fight broke out on the Samohi campus on the first day of school, leading to one student being arrested and another hospitalized ("Fight Breaks Out at Samohi," August 18, 2022). |
