By Lookout Staff July, 13, 2022 -- A musical take on the "Alice" books and spoken performances of scenes from film and theater will be presented at Santa Monica College this month. On Saturday at 1 p.m., SMC’s Emeritus Acting Troupe will stage a live online performance titled “Conversations: Scenes from Film and Theater." The performance features students in SMC’s Emeritus acting classes for seniors, who will showcase "silly, serious, and quirky scenes that inspire, entertain, and offer something to think about," event organizers said. "Emeritus students continually impress me," said Scott Silverman, Dean of Noncredit and External Programs. "The Emeritus players put on a great show. The emotion and enthusiasm shown by our actors is gripping.” A Zoom link at the July 16 event listing at smc.edu/calendar takes guests directly to the online event. Each weekend starting on Friday, July 22 and Friday, July 29, SMC's Theatre Arts Department will present "Alice v. Wonderland: Trials Through the Looking Glass." The in-person performances of the musical production inspired by the works of Lewis Carroll will take place at the Theatre Arts Main Stage on the main SMC campus, 1900 Pico Boulevard. Written by Gary Fritzen and Terrin Adair, the musical "takes Alice back through the looking glass to stand trial for her misdeeds in the nonsensical, whimsical world of Wonderland," organizers said. The SMC production -- directed by Terrin Adair-Lynch, with music direction by Gary Gray -- will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 22 and July 29, and Saturday, July 23 and 30, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday July 24 and 31. Advance tickets, which range from $10 to $20 ($15 for SMC students and staff) plus a modest service charge, can be purchased online at smc.edu/tickets at any time, or by calling 310-434-4319 Monday through Thursday. Children's tickets can ONLY be purchased by calling (310) 434-4319. Tickets purchased on performance weekends at the Events Box Office (at the Theatre Arts building) are $3 higher. Parking is free. Guests should visit smc.edu/coronavirus before heading to the performance for up-to-date details on vaccine and mask requirements, as the requirements are subject to change. |
