By Lookout Staff July 8, 2022 -- As Santa Monica's tourism industry bounces back from the coronavirus shutdown, local hotels and restaurants are seeking employees to fill the employment gaps and cash in on ample opportunities. On Tuesday, Santa Monica Travel & Tourism (SMTT) will hold a job fair hosted by Santa Monica Place on the mall's third floor Dining Deck between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. “The incredible tourism staff and hospitality you find in Santa Monica are two of the top reasons we’re able to call ourselves Southern California’s favorite beach city,” said Misti Kerns, SMTT's President and CEO. “Working this close to the coast is a dream for many and we’re happy to play a role in kick starting what we hope are long and successful careers in our beautiful city.” Job seekers should bring at least 10 copies of an updated resume and dress in business attire, agency officials said. No RSVP is required to attend this event, which is open to the public. Job applicants should check SMTT's Santa Monica Hospitality Job Fair page to view a list of businesses that will attend and "research the opportunities available that you are interested in meeting to discuss." The list of participants includes local tourism-serving businesses such as ETC Hotels (Shutters on the Beach, Hotel Casa Del Mar and Bayside Hotel), Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, Shore Hotel and The Viceroy Santa Monica. Restaurants include Seaside on the Pier, Perry’s Café and Beach Rentals as well as the Rustic Canyon Family group of restaurants, which include Birdie G’s, Cassia, Esters Wine Shop & Bar, Huckleberry Bakery & Café and Milo & Olive. Several retail shops from Santa Monica Place and the surrounding area will also be at the fair seeking employees. A key driver of the local economy, tourism logged dramatic increases in the number of visitors and the amount of money they spent last year, according to data from SMTT ("Santa Monica Tourism on Road to Recovery, Industry Officials Say," May 10, 2022). |
