February 25, 2022 -- Santa Monica residents have until Monday to nominate their favorite local businesses, including restaurant, gym and outdoor dining spot.

Now in its ninth year, the annual contest has quickly grown since it was launched in 2014 by the Buy Local Santa Monica Committee, with more than 70,000 votes received last year.

This year, “Most Loved Santa Monica Outdoor Dining Spot” and some new restaurant/food categories will join categories that include most loved coffee bar and favorite Santa Monica Farmers Markets' vendor, organizers said.

"We want to know which businesses our locals cannot live without, which ones put smiles on their faces when they drop in, and the ones we most want to celebrate because they are so awesome," contest organizers said.

After the nominating period closes Monday, the top five finalists will progress to the Most Loved 2022 voting round, which takes place between March 14 and 31.

Votes will be tallied by the Buy Local Santa Monica Executive Committee in partnership with the Santa Monica Daily Press.

The Most Loved Contest winners will be announced in May at an awards ceremony at City Hall and will be recognized throughout the year in the Most Loved Santa Monica Businesses 2022 publication, which "appeals to locals and visitors alike."

Buy Local Santa Monica -- a partnership created by the City and Santa Monica business community -- is meant to "help promote our local businesses and encourage people to shop, eat, and play local."

“This annual contest is one of the most important ways that the City, our residents and local business community can come together to celebrate our Santa Monica businesses,” said Jennifer Taylor, the City's Economic Development Manager.
