Santa Monica Polar Bears to Hit Surf Sunday

By Lookout Staff December 14, 2022 -- It should be sunny and in the upper 50s Sunday as Santa Monica holds its annual Polar Bear Swim at the Annenberg Community Beach House. Participants should check in at 10 a.m. at Guest Services and head for the shore. Kids will take the plunge first at 10:15 a.m. followed by adults. "The Polar Bear Swim is a no-judgment zone with all ages and abilities welcome," event organizers said. "Participants can choose to dip their toes in the ocean, take a quick plunge, or go for the 300-yard swim around the buoy. Creative swimwear is encouraged." Registration includes admission to the Annenberg Community Beach House's historic heated pool and hot showers, as well as hot chocolate on the pool deck. Youth under the age of eight and less than four feet tall must be accompanied by an adult in the pool at all times, organizers said. Attendees are invited to take photos with event mascot Pat the Polar Bear, Pool admission will be charged for Polar Bears and others entering the pool deck to "visit, soak, swim in the heated pool, or take a hot shower," organizers said. In-person registration will be available but may be limited on the day of the event, which ends at 1 p.m. Parking is $3 per hour or $8 per day.
