September 1, 2021 -- Santa Monica police are looking for a man involved in a shooting that took place at the Santa Monica Pier shortly after midnight Tuesday.
The man -- who fled the scene after firing several shots -- is described as a 25 to 30 year-old Hispanic, about 5’7” tall with black hair and brown eyes, police said.
He was wearing a black hat and black clothing, said Sergeant Erika Aklufi.
Police responded to a call at 12:54 a.m. from a witness who reported hearing three to four shots fired and seeing "an unknown male running towards the Ferris Wheel and out of sight," Aklufi said.
"When officers arrived on scene, they met with a witness who reported that she recovered a handgun dropped by a male while he was trying to jump over a fence," the sergeant said.
Officers found no victims but "located spent casings and impact holes on a wall," she said.
All the parties to the shooting fled prior to officers arriving and no suspects were arrested, police said.
SMPD detectives are "attempting to identify and locate the subject who dropped the handgun at the scene," Aklufi said.
Anyone with information about the incident or the individual involved should call Detective Tavera with the Criminal Investigations Division at 310-458-2256.
They can also call the Santa Monica Department’s Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310-458-8427.
