February 14, 2019 -- The Los Angeles District Attorney's office has filed attempted murder charges against a man suspected of beating his girlfriend unconscious in a Santa Monica apartment last week.

Kevin Ferron, 43, was also charged with "inflicting Corporal Injury on a Spouse/Co-Habitant after prior conviction," according to Santa Monica police.

Ferron remains in custody pending future court proceedings with a bail option of $2.3 million, police said. Police arrested Ferron after Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics responded to a call early Friday afternoon on the 1100 block of 6th Street. The paramedics were "on scene treating a female and noticed she had suffered severe head trauma," said Lt. Saul Rodriguez, the Police Department spokesman. "Paramedics notified SMPD of their findings."

The victim, identified as Anna Koosmann, 38, was transported to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Ferron was at the apartment when paramedics arrived, police said.

"Based on the preliminary investigation, SMPD Detectives believe the victim’s injuries resulted from criminal activity," Rodriguez said.

"The investigation has led to the victim’s boyfriend, Kevin Ferron, as the primary suspect in the investigation."

Ferron had been arrested for domestic violence four times in the past year, most recently on January 21, according to arrest records.
