Santa Monica Jazz on the Lawn Wraps Up Sunday with Hot Salsa

August 22, 2018 -- Santa Monica's popular Jazz on the Lawn concert series wraps up Sunday with the hot tropical sound of Orquesta Tabaco y Ron.
The 10-piece big band orchestra -- which will take the stage at 5 p.m. -- is composed of musicians from all over Latin America.
The band "has appealed to devoted salsa dancers and Latin music DJ's worldwide," concert organizers said.
Dancers can gear up for the the high-energy performance with a free salsa dance lesson , at 4:30 p.m..taught by Rudy Zalez, a professional salsa dancer known for his charisma and distinctive style.
Joe Hernandez-Kolski, co-founder of Downbeat 720, an open-mic event for high school performers, will host the show.
Food trucks include the Gastrobus, Tacos Super Gallito and King Kone.
There will be family-fun activities for children and adults, including outdoor hockey and giant blocks beginning one hour before the concert.
The park -- which includes a children’s playground, restrooms and accessible parking -- is an eight-minute walk from the 26th Street/Bergamot Expo Line Station and served by the Big Blue Bus Route 5 on Olympic Boulevard.
The Gandara Park lot offers free parking as well free bike valet starting at 4 p.m. Free parking also is available after 3:30 p.m. in the nearby Agensys parking lot at 1800 Stewart Street.
Jazz on the Lawn is presented by the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division. In-kind support is provided by the City of Santa Monica Water Resources Division.
