September 23, 2015 -- Paula Lytz, who has been serving as assistant principal at Lincoln Middle School will take over the reins at Muir Elementary, after the Santa Monica-Malibu School Board approved her appointment Thursday.
Lytz brings 19 years of education experience to this position.
At Lincoln, Lytz “supervises and evaluates classified and certificated staff and oversees special education, science, visual and performing arts, world language and PE departments,” District officials said. “She also monitors safety and security of the facility, in addition to other responsibilities.”
Lytz has been an educator in several communities in California and Ohio for 19 years, serving as assistant principal at Hamilton K-8 School in Novato, California from 2012-2013 and as a teacher of Spanish and English language development and culture from 1996-2011.
“I am so excited to be joining the close-knit community at John Muir Elementary, and I am eager to get to know the children, staff, and parents,” Lytz said.
“Although I will miss my Lincoln Middle School family, I am honored to continue my service to our district as a member of the principal team. I look forward to working with teachers and families to make Muir a place where all students can thrive.”
Lytz is bilingual, a certified trainer with the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program and a Lincoln Middle School 2015 PTSA Continuing Service Award Recipient.
She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Spanish education from Ohio State and a Master’s of Education in educational leadership from University of Cincinnati.
District officials said they are currently working on a transition plan that “includes filling the open assistant principal position at Lincoln Middle School.” Barry Yates is the interim principal at Muir.
“Paula will be a valuable addition to our district leadership team,” Superintendent Sandra Lyon said. “I would like to congratulate her on her new position.”
