April 20, 2015 -- The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education has promoted a longtime in-house employee to the job of director of human services.
Dr. Suzanne Webb, who had served as principal of Lincoln Middle School since 2008, was named the new director of human resources at the Board’s meeting this past Thursday.
“As principal, Webb provided oversight and guided the overall vision and mission of the school by working with stakeholders in creating and implementing the Single Plan for Student Achievement,” said district spokeswoman Gail Pinsker.
“She has been instrumental in the planning and facilitation of professional development and leadership over a staff of more than 100, while managing a $3 million budget for the school.”
With some 1,060 students, Lincoln Middle School earned a 907 on the state’s most recent Academic Performance Index, which is considered high. The API uses a scale from 200 to 1,000 to rate how well students in a school performed on the previous spring’s tests.
“I cherish the last seven years that I served as principal of Lincoln Middle School,” said Webb. “While I will miss the daily interactions with students and the Lincoln community, I won’t be far. I will be in close contact with the school and supporting them in every way possible.”
Before heading Lincoln Middle, Webb served as assistant principal of Malibu High School from 2004 to 2008. She was a district education services program facilitator from 2002 to 2004.
Webb started with the district in 1996 as a math teacher at Lincoln. Before that, she taught math and computers at the Beverly Hills Unified School District from 1994 to 1996, Pinsker said.
Webb holds a bachelor’s degree in math and a master’s degree in education leadership and policy from California State University, Northridge, Pinsker said.
She also holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership and administration and policy from Pepperdine University, where she is actively involved in the Pepperdine Alumni Association and mentors doctoral candidates pursuing degrees in educational leadership.
Webb has received several PTSA awards, including an honorary service award from the Malibu PTA and the Lincoln PTSA, and a continuing service award from Lincoln PTSA, said Pinsker.
“Dr. Webb will be a valuable addition to our district leadership team,” SMUSD Superintendent Sandra Lyon said.
