April 17, 2013 -- Santa Monica Police arrested attempted murder suspect Jeremy Emmanueal Gonzalez at his home in the Pico Neighborhood last Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Gonzalez is suspected of shooting at a car stopped at a red light in the crime-plagued neighborhood around Delaware Avenue and 20th Street on April 2.

“Officers contacted a witness who told them that they observed a male subject, possibly African American with a mustache and wearing dark colored clothing and a dark knit cap, walk up to a vehicle waiting for a red light westbound Delaware at 20th Street,” police officials said.

Officials said that an adult woman was injured in the shooting and had been taken to the hospital, but that she was uncooperative when police questioned her. No one was killed.

Gonzalez's bail was set at $1,040,000.

The neighborhood around Delaware and 20th is a perennial battleground for black and Latino gangs.

In 2000, a rash of gang-related shootings within the Pico Neighborhood left two men injured and one dead.

In 1998, the neighborhood was the scene of a gang war that left four people dead.
