March 21, 2012 -- Santa Monica High School choral director Jeffe Huls has been awarded one of the Music Center's prestigious 30th Annual BRAVO Awards for 2012.

The awards ceremony -- hosted by Garry Marshall at the Disney Concert Hall last week -- honored outstanding teachers in the categories of arts specialist, generalist teacher, and arts rich schools.

After being selected by their peers, the finalists underwent a rigorous process that included "submitting videos of their teaching, examples of their lesson plans, and visits to their classroom by members of the BRAVO selection committee," District officials said.

Huls was one of ten teachers from Los Angeles-area districts presented with a BRAVO Award crystal trophy and a cash award dedicated to supplementing arts programs.

“We are so proud of Mr. Huls,” commented “We are extremely thankful that our district attracts teachers like him to work with our students in the arts every day,” said Tom Whaley, the district's Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator.

Huls will be hosting a Masterworks concert on Friday, March 16 at 7:00pm in Barnum Hall on the Santa Monica High School campus, 601 Pico Boulevard.

Established in 1982, the BRAVO Awards helps to quality arts education for all students across the LA area.
