Santa Monica Police Seek Stabbing Suspect

By Jorge Casuso

August 15, 2012 -- Police are searching for a man who stabbed a teenager Monday evening in Downtown Santa Monica.

The victim, a 19-year-old African American, was walking with his girlfriend towards the bus stop on the corner of Fourth Street and Santa Monica Boulevard after exiting a restaurant when he was attacked by the assailant, police said.

The victim was stabbed multiple times in the hip area but did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Richard Lewis, the police department spokesman.

"He is already out of the hospital," Lewis said.

The suspect was described by multiple witnesses as a man between 35 and 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 185 pounds with black hair.

He could either be "white, Hispanic, Native American, maybe even black" and is possibly homeless, Lewis said.

The victim did not appear to know the assailant, police said. Police have not recovered the knife used in the attack.

An investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to contact Detective Goodwin at 310.458.8942 or call the Santa Monica Police Department at 310. 458.8495.
