September 20, 2011 -- The Santa Monica-Malibu School District (SMMUSD) is looking for applicants for its Personnel Commission, as well as applicants for a citizens' committee that will look into the possibility of a future bond measure.

The Personnel Commission is composed of members of the public who oversee the selection, the retention and the promotion of the district's non-teaching staff.

Positions on the three-member commission last for three-years, with one commissioner's term expiring each year.

To be considered for the position, an applicant must be a registered voter who lives within SMMUSD boundaries and who is familiar with and supports the merit system of employee hiring and promotion.

In addition, an applicant to the commission cannot be a member of the SMMUSD Board of Education, the County Board of Education, or an SMMUSD employee.

Applications to the Personnel Commission are available at district offices at 1651 16th Street or can be downloaded from the home page of the SMMUSD website.

The Personnel Commission application deadline is Friday, October 14, 2011. For more information, call 310 458-8338, ext. 70241 or 70279.

SMMUSD is also seeking applications from Malibu residents for a seat on a citizens' committee that's going to be looking into the feasibility of placing education funding measures on a future ballot.

The committee is charged with studying a possible emergency funding measure, a capital bond measure and a progressive structure funding measure based on parcel sizes.

The committee will meet regularly throughout the 2011-12 school year.

Applications can be downloaded from the district's website.

Completed applications for the citizens' committee can be emailed to swahrenbrock@smmusd.org, faxed to 310 581-1138, or dropped off at the district office at 1651 16th Street.

Applications for the citizen's committee must be submitted to the Superintendent’s Office no later than Friday, September 30, 2011.
