Dating Site Relocates to Santa Monica

By Lookout Staff

July 13, 2010 -- In what should be music to Santa Monica's ears, the worldwide on-line dating site eHarmony is moving its corporate headquarters to the beachside city, according to a news report Monday.

The ten-year-old company, which claims 20 million registered users, will move all of its 380 employees from Pasadena, where it has been located for some five years, at the end of the year, according to the in the Pasadena Star-News.

Efforts by Pasadena officials to keep the business in town were unsuccessful, according to the report. Officials noted that although the business generated little in taxes, its workers pumped money into the local economy.

"The spill-over benefit of having 380 workers in the city was very important," Eric Duyshart, Pasadena's economic development manager, told the Star-News.

Pasadena officials said the company moved so its executives could be closer to home.
