Free Composting Workshop Saturday

By Lookout Staff

August 11, 2010 – Want to start composting but don’t think you have the room? The City will give you a hand by answering some key questions at a composting workshop at Virginia Park Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Just how composting, which dates back to early Roman times, works will be explained at the workshop, as will the increasingly popular worm composting.

The free workshop is offered by Santa Monica’s Resource Recovery & Recycling Division in partnership with the County of Los Angeles.
“Whether you are looking to keep food scraps out of the landfill, find out how to improve your current composting operation or have never heard of composting but are interested, this workshop is for you,” City officials said.

After the workshop, you can get started with home composting, Dirt Cheap! Subsidized composting bins are available to residents year-round. Visit online at www.smgov.net/r3 or call (310) 458-2223 for more information.
