By Lookout Staff

August 2, 2010 -- A 61-year-old woman was stabbed to death at a home for the mentally ill in Santa Monica's Pico Neighborhood Saturday morning.

Police arrested Rigoberto Ruiz, a 55-year-old Hispanic man and a resident of The Manor, a residential facility for mentally ill and developmentally disabled adults at 1905 Pico Boulevard.

Both Ruiz and the victim were residents of the facility, which has been operating since the 1960s.

Ruiz was arrested without incident and booked for murder and probation violation, according to police. He is not eligible for bail.

The victim was dead when police arrived at 8:03 a.m. in response to an unknown trouble call, said Jay Trisler, the Police Department spokesman.

The killing marks the first homicide in Santa Monica this year, police said.
