August 3, 2009 -- The body of a woman was found on the beach in Santa Monica Sunday morning, the apparent victim of a suicide.
The body was found at around 7:30 a.m. between the bicycle path and the ocean on the 600 block, which is north of the California incline.
The woman apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Sgt. Jay Trisler, the Police Department spokesman. A suicide note was found at the location.
"There was no apparent foul play," Trisler said.
There have been about a dozen suicides in Santa Monica so far his year, up from a total of nine in 2008, according to police.
Most of the suicide victims were suffering from mental illness, battling a terminal illness or were in financial straits, Trisler said.
