Crashes After Taking Off From Santa Monica |

October 8 – A small plane crashed in the ocean
Tuesday evening shortly after taking off from Santa Monica Airport,
critically injuring the two men on board.
The single-engine Sky Arrow 600 went down 50 yards offshore near the Malibu
Pier at about 5:15 p.m., according to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
official.
The pilot was not in communication with air traffic controllers at the time
of the crash, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor. It is not known where the plane
was headed.
The victims were pulled from the ocean after the crash and airlifted to a nearby
hospital, authorities said.
The men were reported in critical condition, said Los Angeles County fire Capt.
Frank Reynoso.
The plane was registered to Northfield Aviation in Santa Monica..
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the
crash.
