District Appoints Deputy Superintendent By Lookout Staff September 11 – The School Board has filled another key vacancy by appointing Tim Walker to the position of Deputy Superintendent, effective immediately. Walker – who was promoted from Assistant Superintendent of Education Services on August 31 – is the fifth top appointment made in the past three weeks as the board moved to quickly fill a “power void” before school started last Wednesday. Since Walker came to the district 18 months ago from Glendale Unified School District, he has established himself as a “skilled and effective educational leader,” school officials said. Walker “is a strong leader, with strong convictions,” said Superintendent Dianne Talarico. “He has a wealth of knowledge and is highly competent regarding multiple aspects of the organization. “Mr. Walker is to be commended for taking on multiple roles and responsibilities during a time of great transition in our District and we are fortunate to have his talent and leadership.” Walker has worn several hats since the departure of Superintendent Dr. John E. Deasy in February, serving in Special Education and Educational Services and as Interim Superintendent. Walker has more than 20 years of educational experience and holds a B.A. from the University of Southern California, an M.A. in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College and an M.Ed. and Ed.S. from Point Loma College. Walker’s appointment came one week after the board named three principals
to head the Santa Monica’s high school and two middle schools, as well
as one of the “houses” at the high school. |
