Man Wounded in Pico Neighborhood Shooting

By Lookout Staff

July 5 -- Police are looking for two Hispanic men allegedly involved in the shooting of a black man in the Pico Neighborhood Tuesday.

The shooting comes less than one day after a Hispanic man from Los Angeles was shot and wounded near the Santa Monica pier shortly after midnight Monday. (see story)

The July 4 shooting took place at around 2 p.m. in the 1900 block of 19th Street, a corner of the Santa Monicaís poorest and most diverse neighborhood that has been riddled for years with gang violence.

Officers who arrived at the location were unable to locate any victims, but spoke to a witness, said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman.

During the course of the investigation, the police department was contacted by a local hospital that reported a patient had been taken in with gunshot wounds.

The victim -- a 25-year-old black man -- was shot in the right foot and right elbow, Fabrega said. The wounds are not life threatening.

The suspects are described as two male Hispanics in a metallic blue two-door compact vehicle.
