‘Governator’s’
Brother-In-Law Seeking Council Seat By Lookout Staff Bobby Shriver -- the brother of Maria Shriver and brother-in-law of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- is training his political sights on one of four open seats on the Santa Monica City Council. Shriver, 50, is the oldest son of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sergeant Shriver. Shriver took out nomination papers August 4 and has until Monday, August 9 to gather 100 signatures of registered city voters in order to be on the municipal ballot in November. The entry of a Kennedy into local politics could dampen the prospects of election -- or re-election -- for some leading candidates and incumbents. Shriver had a run-in with city officials earlier this year due to an allegedly over-height hedge, which led to the Council halting enforcement of hedge heights until further review of the issue. Some 30 prospective candidates have taken out nomination papers, but only two have qualified for the ballot. |
