Man Arrested in Sexual Assault Case Erica Williams March 24 -- Police have arrested a registered sex offender in the case of a 26-year-old Santa Monica woman who was sexually assaulted 10 days ago in the early morning hours by an assailant who entered through a bedroom window and brandished a knife. Darryl Renard Jackson, 28, of Los Angeles, was picked up March 19, three days after the attack, police said. Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman, said one of the preliminary officers who arrived at the scene remembered stopping someone several months ago who fit the assailant's description. "Detectives researched field interview cards and located the subject they had stopped. That eventually led to his arrest," Fabrega said. Detectives have since interviewed Jackson. Jackson has been charged with numerous offenses, among them, residential burglary, rape and violating parole. He is currently being held in the Los Angeles County Jail. Bail has not yet been set, but the District Attorney was expected to request a $2 million bond at Jackson's arraignment Tuesday. The assault occurred on March 14 at approximately 5:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of 21st Street. |
