Santa Monica Woman Sexually Assaulted

March 16 -- A 26-year-old Santa Monica woman was sexually assaulted early Friday morning by an assailant who entered through a bedroom window and brandished a weapon, police said.

The assault occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of 21st Street. A preliminary investigation revealed the weapon used was not a firearm, police said.

The suspect is described as African-American, approximately 20-years old, 6'1" tall with a medium to heavy build. He has short dark hair, facial hair (possibly a goatee) and was wearing a dark gray jacket, an orange Hawaiian-print shirt, black pants and a white visor-type hat.

The investigation is on going.
