Wanted in Homicide
of Juarez Brothers
By Anne La Jeunesse Santa Monica police have released a composite drawing of a man they suspect of being the driver of a stolen car from which three masked gunmen exited on Oct. 27, 1998 and fatally shot two brothers and wounded two others inside a Lincoln Boulevard Hip-Hop clothing store. The composite, featuring a man with a thin mustache and short cropped hair, is believed to be that of the driver of a stolen Dodge Neon that pulled up to Westside Clothing at 2204 Lincoln Blvd. just after noon, letting out the gunmen. After the three shooters, armed with an assault rifle and two handguns, opened fire in he newly opened shop, brothers Anthony Robert Juarez, 18, and Michael Anthony Juarez, 27, were dead. The gunman also wounded shop proprietor who police reported was a former gang member and part owner of the store. A customer was also wounded in the shooting. The shooters and driver are suspected members of the Culver City Boyz street gang, and the killings took place during a spate of an outbreak of gang violence that plagued the city late last year. A total of $45,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrests and convictions of those involved in the killings of the Juarez brothers from Central California -- $25,000 from the city of Santa Moncia and another $20,000 from the state of California. The Juarez brothers were gunned down 15 days after the year's first fatal gang shooting -- the Oct. 12 slaying of Omar Sevilla in a drive-by assault on Sixth Street at Pico Boulevard. The next man to die in what authorities suspect is a retaliation hit, was Juan Campos, who was cornered in the rear of Eddie's Market at Pico Boulevard and 20th Street and shot multiple times. Anyone with information about the shootings or the identity of the driver in the Juarez killings is urged to contact Detective W.S. Brown at 310/458-8437, or the Watch Commander, 24 hours a day, at 310/458-8427. |
