Treating Residents Like Cash Machines

February 17, 2022

Dear Editor,

Thanks for Mark Verville’s outstanding piece on burdening residents with more taxes! ("Possible Tax Hike is Move in Wrong Direction," February 17, 2022).

His insightful, clear analyses of our city’s finances are often read and discussed by friends and family. (Potential tax hikes were indeed buried in the City Council discussion.)

Despite the City’s sunny fiscal forecast and assurances that shoppers don’t need parking Downtown, the Promenade is dying and City Hall continues to treat residents like cash machines.

Santa Monicans do need Verville’s fiscal transparency and realistic problem-solving to get out of this mess.
