Exhibits Showcase Local Talent December 11, 2009 -- Alejandro Gehry -- whose work is on display at the at Robert Berman Gallery -- showed talent early on. His ceramic tile still hangs on 4th street where the Cross Roads School used to be. His exhibition, titled FOR PLAY, includes a group of nude drawings that challenge the page with a collage and tape close-up of a face and tongue in color, as well as large oil paintings on canvas that defy the recognition of gender. They are all nicely done. Robert Berman Gallery If you don't mind travelling outside of Santa Monica, you'll find two interesting exhibits. Installations Inside/Out They are part of a show that pays tribute to 20 years of exhibition history and includes new site-specific works and installations. 145 N Raymond Ave Pasadena CA 91103 |
The Palos Verdes Art Center is mounting Surf and Turf, an exhibition featuring: Los Angeles artists Denice Bartles, Raoul De la Sota, Daniel de Plessis, Connie Jenkins, Todd Kenyon and Constance Mallinson. The beauty of nature all around us offers many insights about who we are and where we come from. These wonders have inspired many throughout the centuries, each looking at the world differently and expressing their beliefs and thoughts about this vast subject. The work evokes the paintings of Caspar David Friedrich, who commonly employed a technique that places the viewer in the position of a person seen from behind, contemplating the view. This method, called Rückenfigur, allows the viewer to experience the sublime potential of nature, understanding that the scene is perceived and idealized (created) by a human. 5504 Crestridge Rd September 19 - Dec 31 st 2009 |
