Santa Monica Woodlawn Cemetery & Mausoleum Sponsors 2nd Annual Holiday Tree of Life

Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum owned and operated by the City of Santa Monica is pleased to announce that during this holiday season the cemetery is displaying a beautiful 12 foot Pinus Halepensis living holiday Tree of Life in the lobby of the mausoleum.

The purpose of the tree is to allow individuals and families the opportunity to visit the mausoleum and to hang an ornament on the tree in memory of a loved one that has passed away. The cemetery will provide the ornaments which can be personalized. At the end of the holiday season, the tree will be planted on the grounds of the cemetery in memory of individuals who have passed away.

The holiday season can be a very difficult time for many people who have experienced the death of a loved one. In an effort to make this time a little bit more bearable and offer hope for the future, the Cemetery staff would like to extend an invitation to the community to participate in the Tree of Life program.

Additionally, a complimentary booklet entitled “Thoughts for the Holidays…Finding Permission to Grieve” will also be distributed.

The ornaments will be available beginning Saturday, December 1, 2007 and continue through Sunday, December 23, 2007 during the follow schedule:

Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The cemetery is located at 1847 14th Street in Santa Monica at the corner of 14th Street and Pico Boulevard directly across the street form Santa Monica College.
