Santa Monica Library Launches Curbside Pick-Up
By Lookout Staff
July 9, 2020 -- Santa Monica's libraries haven't opened yet due to LA County's coronavirus shutdown, but that doesn't mean items can't be checked out.
On Wednesday, the library launched a new curbside service that allows patrons to pick up items -- including books, DVDs, audiobooks and music CDs -- they check out remotely, library officials said.
The items can be requested through the Library’s catalog at smpl.org or over the phone by calling 310-458-8600, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
When the items are ready for pickup, patrons will receive an email, text or voicemail. They can then schedule an appointment online or by calling 310-458-8600.
Pickup appointments are available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more details, visit smpl.org/curbside.
Patrons with items currently on hold will be notified when they are avaiable for pickup, library officials said.
Book can be returned 24/7 at all five library locations.
"All returned materials are quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before being reassigned, as recommended by health officials," library officials said.
Patrons can check item due dates on their library account.
No fines will be assessed during this period.
"The re-opening of the book returns and launch of curbside pickup service represent the beginning of a phased approach to providing Library services to support the health and safety of our community," officials said.
No book donations are currently being accepted.
For questions, call 310-458-8600 or email email@example.com. Staff are available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
