Santa Monica Accepting Applications for New Senior Building

August 26, 2020 -- The City of Santa Monica is accepting applications for a 38-unit affordable senior building currently under construction in the Pico Neighborhood.
The Community Corporation building at 1820 14th Street offers one-bedroom apartments ranging from $538 to $1,214 per month, depending on household income, City housing officials said.
Applicants who live or work in Santa Monica will receive priority on the waiting list for the new Greenway Meadows development, officials said.
“The City of Santa Monica knows the strain the cost of housing puts on many in our community, including seniors who have lived here much of their lives,” said Andy Agle, the City's community services director.
“Greenway Meadows will allow 38 senior households to remain in Santa Monica and builds on the City’s commitment to supporting our long-term residents,” Agle said.
There is no minimum income for households with a Section 8 housing voucher.
The new building is near many community amenities, including Memorial Park, the Santa Monica Swim Center and businesses on Pico Boulevard, officials said.
Apartments will be available for persons with mobility, vision, or hearing accessibility needs, officials said.
Santa Monica's senior housing developments have long waiting lists, according to the project's loan document.
When the City's Housing Authority’s waiting list opened in January 2017, 362 seniors who live or work in Santa Monica applied, the docuument said.
