November 14, 2018 -- Santa Monica residents can book a local hotel room for a visiting guest at a deeply discounted rate under the annual Extra Bedroom Program that kicked off this week.

Sponsored by Santa Monica Travel & Tourism (SMTT), the program runs through January 19 and allows residents to choose from any one of 16 local hotels.

“During this special season," said Misti Kerns, SMTT president/CEO, "Santa Monica residents can keep their visitors and loved ones near-by with generous offers from our accommodation partners all while enjoying a taste of our destination’s world-class properties."

Residents also can use the opportunity to book a room for themselves and enjoy a "beachside staycation," tourism officials said.

To secure the discounted rates, residents can mention the program while making the reservation on the phove then show proof of Santa Monica residency -- a California ID or drivers’ license -- at check-in.

Visitors can get help planning their itinerary and obtain information about local attractions, activitiesky and public transportation at SMTT's four Visitors Centers located throughout the city.

The centers are located on the Third Street Promenade, in Palisades Park, on the Santa Monica Pier and at 2427 Main Street at the Edgemar Center for the Arts.

"Friendly and knowledgeable visitor experience specialists are available throughout the holiday season," tourism officials said.

Visitors can also do some holiday shopping at the centers, which sell
fashionable t-shirts, long-sleeves, sweatshirts, totes and athletic hats that showcase Santa Monica.

Other destination-inspired home goods include Santa Monica coasters, Route 66 coffee mugs and a book on the most Instagrammed Los Angeles location of 2017, the Santa Monica Pier.

A limited number of items are also available for purchase online at
