Woman Shot on Santa Monica Pier
By Jorge Casuso
August 23, 2018 -- A woman who was shot on the Santa Monica Pier shortly before dawn on Thursday is recuperating at a local hospital but is failing to cooperate with authorities, police said.
The 26-year old woman, described as Asian and black, was being treated for a gunshot wound to the thigh, said Sgt. Rudy Flores.
She gave a vague description of the shooter, a Hispanic in his 20s or 30s who was accompanied by a Hispanic woman, Flores said.
"She was very uncooperative and was giving conflicting statements," he said.
The shooting took place at around 6 a.m. near the western edge of the pier, Flores said. A fisherman contacted the harbor guard, who called police.
Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot, but details of the shooting remain sketchy, Flores said.
Police closed the western section of the pier until around 11 a.m. and were conducting an investigation around the crime scene into the early afternoon, he said.
They will review any footage available from cameras facing the area, which is around the Mariasol Restaurant, Flores said.
Anyone with information regarding the incident should call Detective Richard Elias at (310) 458-8943, Sergeant Chris Skogh at (310) 458-8992 or the Santa Monica Police Department at (310) 458-8491.
