May 19, 2017 -- The 33rd Annual Twilight Concert Series kicks off this month with a line-up that includes everything from a seminal classic rock band to a Norwegian indie electronic duo, event organizers announced this week.

The lineup for the Thursday night summer series -- billed as "Southern California's largest free concert series" -- features the usual eclectic mix of world music, pop, rock, blues, funk and a classic rock band.

The series kicks off June 22 with Khalid -- a 19-year-old singer-songwriter best known for his debut single "Location" -- and Indie Pop songwriter Bibi Bourelly, who has written tunes for Selena Gomez, Rihanna and Usher.

June 29 features two duos half a planet apart. The indie electronic duo Lemaitre hails from Norway, while opening act Coast Modern -- whose sound is inspired by the Beach Boys, Beatles and Led Zepplin -- is based in LA.

After a lull during July 4 week, the series resumes July 13 with a night of reggae sounds both old and new. Marcia Griffiths, reggae's most influential woman, headlines a show that also features Jah9, a member of the new Reggae Revival movement.

Eric Burdon & The Animals -- whose rendition of the blues standard “House of the Rising Sun” likely rivals "Louie Louie" as the most played rock song of the 60s takes the stage July 20. The opening act, the LA-based Mr. Elevator, brings classic synth sounds up to date.

There will be an Australian invasion July 27, when Miami Horror, a dance act that hails from down under, brings their infectious rhythms. Opening act Cleopold, also from Australia, will showcase his “electro-soul” sound and airy vocals.

It's back to America August 3, when Valerie June brings her hybrid of folk, blues, and Appalachian sounds and R&B and soul singer Irma Thomas showcases the sound that earned her the moniker “Soul Queen of New Orleans.”

The series heads south of the border August 10 with Latin GRAMMY-nominee Mon Laferte, who blends Latin sounds with blues and jazz, and opening act Buscabulla, a Puerto Rican duo steeped in soul, funk and Caribbean sounds.

The series concludes August 17 when LA-based indie quartet Warpaint bring their blend of art rock, dream pop and psychedelic rock to the century old pier.

Once again, DJs from media partner KCRW will present each concert in the series, which is co-produced by RH&S Concerts, a partnership between Spaceland Presents and Rum & Humble.
